I don't know why you say "Goodbye," I say "Hello!"

Hi everybody!

I’m AP, a second year DO student at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and this is my blog!  Welcome!  I’ve never blogged before, so bear with me as I get the hang of this.  I apologize in advance for any grammatical errors, run-on sentences, and non-sequiturs.  One doesn’t do a whole lot of writing in medical school, so my skills (what little I had) are a bit rusty, so what you’re reading is how I speak (still can’t tell if that’s a good or bad thing).

About me:  Born and raised on New Yawk, went to school at Vassar College (GO VC!), graduated in 2010, and entered PCOM the following August (so I was “fresh out,” as they say).  In addition to being a second year DO student, I serve on the Student Organizations Council, which is the governing body for all of the clubs on-campus.  There are around 50 student organizations, and they’re all incredibly active.  There’s always a lecture by a visiting clinician, workshop, or community service event to attend (but more about awesome PCOM extracurricular life in future entries).  I also hold a work-study job in the Office of Student Affairs (hello to all of my co-workers reading this!), which takes care of pretty much everything student-related, from proctoring exams to providing boards prep materials to processing residency applications.  Oh yeah, and I love long walks on the beach and chocolate ice cream.  Actually, that’s a lie.  I grew up on an island, but hate the beach, and I’m a fro-yo girl.

What I hope you get from this blog: An in-depth look at life as a PCOM student, both in and out of the classroom.  From freaking out about Boards to finding rotation sites, I plan to cover a range of topics (hopefully with a good dose of humor and down-to-earth…ness).  PCOM is my home (cheesy, but true), and I’m always excited to share my PCOM “lurve” with prospective students and interviewees.

I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I’ll enjoy writing it!  Maybe if I get a certain number of hits, PCOM will cut me a break on my loans.
