Surgery WIN.

Surgery Club at 2012 SOSA Convention at VCOM

Yesterday morning, Dr. Sesso, our surgery professor, congratulated the Surgery Club on winning the bid for next year's SOSA Convention. Since winning a bid for PCOM to host any conference is a pretty big deal, I followed up with Michael Tecce, OMS-I and the incoming Surgery President, who had this to say in an e-mailed statement:

"The SOSA Convention (Student Osteopathic Surgical Association) is a sub-division of the ACOS (American College of Osteopathic Surgeons).  During the annual convention, several osteopathic colleges make presentations to the Association to earn the honor of having the following year's convention at their school.

This year's convention was at VCOM.  The convention itelf is comprised of lectures and workshops that focus on surgery, but also includes various aspects of medicine including internal and emergency medicine.  In addition to lectures, there were workshops that provided more of a hands-on approach to learning.  Some of the workshops this year included learning to do a cricothyrotomy using porcine trachea, central lines on simulators, and even post-surgical OMT.

It was a huge win not only for the Surgery Club but for PCOM as well. We're so excited!"

Is it completely dorky of me for feeling a surge of SOC pride while writing this?
